Tip #1: never take advice from Donald Trump.
I mean, really. Shouldn’t that be a given by now? The man is completely bonkers, not to mention likely mentally unfit to serve as President of the United States.
On Friday, Trump visited a private elementary school in Orlando, Florida, where it was expected that he’d give young students advice on following their dreams and preparing for the future.
But that didn’t exactly happen.
Nope. In true Trump fashion, the president ditched the script and made things up as he went. The problem with that, though, is that Trump’s improvising provides no time to prepare a lie — or as Kellyanne would say, “alternative facts.” And honestly, if there was one time it would’ve be acceptable to bend the truth, this would’ve been it.
Instead of telling students to work hard, follow their dreams, and persevere despite adversity — like any normal human being, let alone president, would say — Trump told students to “make a lot of money.”
Upon arrival, Trump was greeted at the door by two students who told him they were learning about the history of their state. When Trump asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, one said she wanted to be an entrepreneur and start her own business.
‘That’s a good idea. Make a lot of money, right? But don’t run for politics after.’
Honestly, does everything have to be about him? Is he incapable of realizing that some things don’t come back to The Donald?
Trump’s comments could’ve been his own weird way of telling a joke, of course. But young children probably aren’t the best people to joke around with, given the fact that they take most things literally.
As President of the United States, these children likely look up to Trump and view him as a role model. Instead of encouraging them, Trump promotes striving for their own self-interests.
With apathy already on the rise amongst young voters, Trump really needn’t discourage the upcoming generation from becoming politically engaged.
All in all, I think it’s safe to say that Donald Trump is no role model for young children and, if possible, should be kept far away from them.
