MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, speaking this morning on her daily television program “Morning Joe,” spoke for us all in describing the Trump Administration and America’s attitudes towards it.
She called this current presidential administration “fake and failed,” saying: “I had hope and an open mind and I have lost hope completely and my mind is closed. This presidency is fake and failed.”
Indeed, many of us did also have “hope and an open mind,” but then Trump set himself almost immediately once he became president to rolling back the protections for minorities that were put in place during the Obama Administration and prior. Trump has already signed one executive order barring many millions of Muslims from entering the United States, and he’s set to sign another one, following his first being struck down by the courts, sometime this Monday.
He has also already begun to formulate his plans for a wall along the entire border between the United States and Mexico, and he’s stuck to the idea that Mexico is somehow going to pay for that wall. He’s rolled back protections for everyone from immigrants to LGBT people to the mentally ill, all while his administration has come under ever increasing scrutiny as official after official have been revealed to have lied about their respective connections to Russia.
That’s certainly not an atmosphere conducive to holding on to hope, as Morning Joe’s Brzezinski noted.
She commented as such after being pressed by her co-host, Joe Scarborough, who is a former Republican Congressman and yet is still harshly critical of the current presidential administration, with no regard for their shared party affiliation.
Indeed, the age of Trump has less and less to do with “normal” partisan bickering and back and forths as time goes on; rather, the age of Trump is an age centered around the pre-eminence of Donald Trump the man over all else in the world of him and his followers. He’s left us who aren’t brainwashed to try and pick up the pieces left by the Trump Administration’s mindless, belligerent march onward.
