We all know former presidential candidate and former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee is an overtly religious and repugnant man. He takes his religion and injects it straight into politics, which is obviously forbidden under the U.S. Constitution.
He also happens to be a guy that insults his own Republican colleague and a man he once stood on stage with in a bid for the U.S. presidency.
In an interview with Laura Ingraham, he made a veiled insult towards Republican Senior Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) regarding Graham possibly being a gay man. The insult came after Ingraham asked Huckabee about Graham’s comments he made about House Intel Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA). Graham spoke on The Today Show recently and made this comment about Nunes:
‘There’s nothing [that’s] been revealed to suggest that the Obama administration surveilled the Trump campaign. That’s not even what Nunes is saying. He’s saying that there’s some incidental collection outside of Russia. The problem that he’s created is he’s gone off on a lark by himself, sort of an Inspector Clouseau investigation here, trying to find some unmasking information about collection incidental with the Trump campaign and some foreign agent outside of Russia.’
Inspector Clouseau is of course a reference to the character in The Pink Panther series who is basically an idiot detective.
In response to this, Huckabee expressed his disappointment saying:
‘I’m very disappointed in Lindsey. I sometimes wonder what uniform he puts on each morning when he goes out to the field to play, and I’m not just talking about the partisan uniform.’
We all well know the idea of somebody “playing for the other team” is a sports euphemism to suggest someone is gay. That’s just common knowledge. It’s been used to describe a gay person for decades.
This is not the first time Graham’s sexuality has been questioned. Graham is well known for having never married and has no children. His southern accent (which is more common than you may think) and manner of speech also makes him a target for such accusations. However, Graham has responded to such rumors with humor, saying:
‘Like maybe I’m having a clandestine affair with Ricky Martin. I know it’s really gonna upset a lot of gay men – I’m sure hundreds of ’em are gonna be jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge – but I ain’t available. I ain’t gay. Sorry.’
Regardless of the way Graham identifies, the comment is childish and ignorant. Huckabee was and still is a major supporter of Trump, since Trump won the Republican nomination. However, Graham has NEVER supported Trump and has openly admitted he did not vote for him.
