On the campaign trail, Donald Trump promised that he would make America great again, but, so far, it seems that the only thing he’s succeeded in making great again is Saturday Night Live. Alex Baldwin’s portray of the president has brought the series its highest ratings in years, but it turns out that Trump himself wasn’t too great on the show.
Brooklyn Magazine sat down SNL’s Taran Killam and the conversation briefly turned to Trump. It was at this point that the actor made it his feelings on Trump clear saying that “the president is a moron.
Killam isn’t merely basing his opinion on Trump’s conduct as president or on the campaign trail. Trump actually hosted SNL last year and it turns out that no one was happy to have him around. Killam alleges that Trump did not seem excited to be on the show and was only there as a publicity stunt.
‘It was not fun, and most of the cast and writers were not excited to have him there. I didn’t get the feeling that he was excited to be there, and it felt like a move for ratings from both sides. He was…’
At this point the interviewer, Evan Romano, interjected by asking if Trump was “unpleasant.” It turns out that “unpleasant” doesn’t do Trump justice.
‘He was… everything you see. What you see is what you get with him, really. I mean, there was no big reveal. He struggled to read at the table read, which did not give many of us great confidence. Didn’t get the jokes, really. He’s just a man who seems to be powered by bluster.’
The most disturbing thing about this story is the fact that Killam says that Trump struggled to read. His limited vocabulary certainly makes it appear that he’s not every well-read, but we would hope he’s at least capable of reading. Then again, this is the man who once said that he prefers his intelligence briefings to come in bullet points so maybe he really can’t read.
