Speaking to The Telegraph, Eric Trump has unleashed what can only be described as an absolutely horrifying revelation as to where President Trump’s sudden change of heart might have come from when it came to defending the Syrian people.
As is well known by now, President Trump ordered a strike against a Syrian government airfield last week, marketing the move as “retaliation” for the horrifying chemical weapons attack that the Assad regime carried out against Syrian civilians. The thing is, that chemical weapons attack wasn’t the first of its kind, and it isn’t the only atrocity to be carried out against the Syrian people by their dictatorial government in recent years.
Trump has continually turned a blind eye to the Syrians, however, insisting that we should put “America First” and wall up our borders, refusing to accept any further Syrian refugees due to an imaginary terror threat. No Syrian refugee has ever committed any atrocity in the United States; they aren’t terrorists, they are people who are fleeing a murderous government. Even so, United States has appropriate vetting procedures in place to keep any terrorists out of the country that would do us harm. That’s not conjecture; just look around.
Even still, Trump has repeatedly railed against the United States’s Syrian refugee resettlement program, signing a complete stop order on it into law twice, even though that order was overturned by the court system on both occasions after it was signed into law. Quite simply, the Trump Administration did not separate any actual national security issue from simple bigotry against Muslims, so the Syrian refugee ban, which went hand in hand with the travel ban on a number of Muslim majority countries, wasn’t constitutional.
And yet, now, after the latest chemical weapons attack, Trump has had a sudden, temporal change of heart? All of a sudden he actually cares about the plight of Syrian civilians?
According to Eric Trump, the answer is no, not quite. He postulated in an interview with The Telegraph that it was his sister Ivanka who had actually pushed the Syria strike through.
He said: “Ivanka is a mother of three kids and she has influence. I’m sure she said ‘listen, this is horrible stuff.’ My father will act in times like that.”
Oh great. So with Trump’s ascent to power, we really have come under the thumb of a “ruling family.” How promising for the future of American democracy, in which it’s traditionally the voters who are in charge and not presidential family members who have been appointed to made up jobs, taking over responsibilities from more publicly accountable offices.
Eric eventually added the following about his father’s approach to Syria:
‘[H]e was anti doing anything with Syria two years ago. Then a leader gasses their own people, women and children, at some point America is the global leader and the world’s superpower has to come forward and act… If there was anything that Syria did, it was to validate the fact that there is no Russia tie.’
First of all, are you aware, Eric, that the Syrian Civil War has been going on for over six years?
His statement makes it seem like the chemical weapons development is new.
Secondly, is the Trump/Russia scandal really what this is about, Eric? That last statement sounds like something that someone who was struggling with guilt would say.
