What in God’s name.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has either gone off the deep end or just snapped under the weight of his own team’s conspiracies.
At a Tuesday press briefing — which coincides with the first day of Passover, no less — Spicer claimed that “even Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons.”
Yes, you read that correctly. The White House Press Secretary just parroted Holocaust revisionism, which is the sort of thing that political leaders in Iran and virulent anti-Semites in Europe peddle. That sort of sentiment has, evidently, infected the highest rungs of American leadership.
Spicer was attempting to defend the Trump Administration’s decision to bomb a Syrian government airfield last week in “retaliation” for a chemical weapons attack against Syrian civilians, when he said: “You had someone as despicable as Hitler, who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons. So, you have to if you are Russia, ask yourself, is this a country and regime that you want to align yourself with?”
Spicer is as wrong as he could possibly be. His comments as to America’s take on Russia’s alliance with the Syrian dictator are far overshadowed by the weight of his horrifying lies about Hitler.
The Nazi leader Adolf Hitler gassed millions upon millions of people to death, including Jews, Gypsies, gays, and members of other marginalized communities.
Perhaps Spicer didn’t pay attention during that part of history class in school, but it’s very, very basic, common knowledge. Prisoners of Nazi death camps were told they were going to be showered, but instead of water coming out of the pipes, poison gas did. Millions of people were killed that way.
Even if Spicer simply misspoke, and “didn’t mean” any harm by his statements, that doesn’t make the situation any better.
Does the leadership of this nation really think so lightly of the murder of tens of millions of people in our parents’ and grandparents’ generation that it’s nothing to them to get very basic facts dead wrong?
Spicer tried to make some sense of his remarks at a later point in the briefing, saying:
‘When it comes to Sarin gas, [Hitler] was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing. He brought them into the Holocaust centers, I understand that. I was saying in the way that Assad used them where he went into town, dropped them into the middle of town.’
Oh, so it makes Hitler’s crimes lesser than Assad’s because the Jews weren’t “his own people”? And what in God’s name do you mean, “Holocaust centers”?
Unsurprisingly, Spicer’s comments have sparked outrage from all sides.

The Jews and homosexuals in the camps were his own people, unless you're replicating his ideology.

Sean Spicer is a profoundly stupid liar working for a profoundly stupid liar.
