It seems that the politically conservative male’s propensity to want to control women and hamper women’s rights is rooted in their general sentiment that women just aren’t worthy of respect on any level. After all, in recent months the United States has seen the Electoral College select a commander-in-chief who subscribes to a “grab ’em by the p*ssy” philosophy.
In the spirit of the attitude of a group being reflective of its leadership, with a so-called leader like Trump representing the Republican party, no one should be surprised about how the network known for feeding the conservative public their information, has been publicly humiliated by scandal involving sexual assault/abuse and general maltreatment of women. Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly have already paid out millions in settlements and been excused from their jobs, with more allegations rolling in.
Now, political agitator and Fox host Sean Hannity is on the growing list of Fox staffers disgraced by their unwillingness to treat women with the respect and dignity they deserve. The New York Daily News reports that a former guest Debbie Schlussel, is alleging that while working an event with the Fox staffer in Detroit, Hannity asked Schlussel to go to his hotel room multiple times.
‘So I met him there and it was very awkward. He had me stand up there with him while he signed books and I felt very weird. These people don’t know me and they didn’t come for me to sign their books. So then I left to get ready for the show and he said, “Why don’t you come back with me to my hotel?” and I said no, I have to get ready for the show.’
For his part, Hannity vehemently denies that anything took place. In a statement Hannity said:
‘LET ME BE CLEAR THE COMMENTS ABOUT ME ON A RADIO SHOW THIS WEEK by this individual ARE 100% false and a complete fabrication. This individual is a serial harasser who has been lying about me for well over a decade. The individual has a history of making provably false statements against me in an effort to slander, smear and besmirch my reputation.’
He didn’t stop there, he added:
‘The individual has not just slandered me over the years but many people who this individual disagrees with. This individual desperately seeks attention by any means necessary, including making unfounded personal attacks and using indefensible and outrageous political rhetoric.’
Alluding to the political climate that he has been a huge part of helping to create, he took the Donald Trump play the victim route and threatened legal action:
‘In this fiercely divided and vindictive political climate I will no longer allow slander and lies about me to go unchallenged, as I see a coordinated effort afoot to now silence those with conservative views. I will fight every single lie about me by all legal means available to me as an American.’
Hannity’s full statement may be found here.
This is a developing story, but one thing is clear: The conservative party and everyone who has fallen in line with the beliefs of people like Trump, Ailes, O’Reilly et al, without speaking up, has already set the tone for the fair assumption that the party as a whole doesn’t respect woman. That alone will likely make it quite difficult for Hannity to separate himself from the people he regularly defends and aligns himself with.
