Unanimous Resolution Announced Calling For The Impeachment Of Donald Trump

Trump may think he’s escaped possible impeachment by flying out of the country, his health care act squeaking by the House, and firing former FBI Director James Comey; however, America hasn’t forgot. In fact, city councils across America have banded together to force the hand of Congress to act.

The Huffington Post reported the Los Angeles City Council has teamed up with other cities across America to pass a resolution demanding they investigate “potentially impeachable offenses by President Donald Trump.”

The resolution they put forward passed unanimously.

However, the move wasn’t about disagreeing with Trump’s policy stances. Bob Blumenfield (D-San Fernando Valley), a city council member, explained that despite his policies being “odious,” it was about the potential conflict of interest. In his statement to the council, he wrote:

‘This resolution is not about Trump’s proposed budget to cut $50 million in CDBG from our City. This is not about his threat to cut off hundreds of millions of dollars to our City because he thinks we’re a sanctuary city. This is not about his anti-choice positions, or his anti-immigrant policies, or his efforts to deny millions of Americans healthcare, or his misogynistic words and deeds, or any of his positions that I find odious. This is about conflicts of interest.’

He explained to The Huffington Post that Americans nationwide should be concerned about Trump’s business ties, his ties to Russia and Turkey, and more. He added it was about “pressuring Congress to ensure that Trump only uses his presidency to benefit the American people.”

‘We must demand that Congress use its power to investigate. With this resolution, the city of Los Angeles calls on our Congress members and senators for the good of the country to investigate Trump’s international finances and make sure that he is actually working on behalf of the American people and not his own pocketbook.’

He gave several examples of highly possible conflicts of interests. For one, there is the issue of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. It drips in gold décor, offers $8 glasses of milk, $100 vodka cocktails, and one night will put you out $600. Furthermore, lobbyists have been hanging around the place. Additionally, foreign officials from Bahrain, Kuwait, and Azerbaijan have been to the hotel and held events. Also, the hotel is leased to Trump by the federal government, which he runs.

Furthermore, Blumenfield cited the recent invitation Trump offered to Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte is well known for his harsh punishment of drug offenses in the Philippines. One photographer documented 57 murders in only 35 days. He’s also known for killing journalists. Duterte also called former President Barack Obama a “son of a whore” once. Coincidentally enough, a Trump hotel is set to open soon in the Philippines.

Blumenfield also added in his statement that Trump had other business deals in Saudi Arabia, India, Argentina, and Turkey.

He also wrote on the obvious benefit Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, has enjoyed from working within Trump’s administration. The day she was awarded new trademarks in China, she had a steak dinner with President Xi Jinping.

Also at question was whether Trump has truly separated himself from his business and totally handed it over to his sons to handle. In March, in an interview with Forbes, Eric Trump revealed he will be providing his father with updates, such as profitability reports, quarterly.

This is not the first such resolution to be passed. In a growing group of cities banding together, Los Angeles joined with other Californian cities Berkley, Richmond, and Alameda. Also, similar resolutions were passed by the city of Charlotte in Vermont and Cambridge in Massachusetts.
