Donald Trump spilled another highly classified piece of intelligence in what is turning out to be a dangerous trend. Earlier this month, he told two Russian officials about a mole within Islamic State during an Oval Office meeting. This time, Trump’s leak may be far more hazardous to American’s safety.
The president told Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte that the U.S. sent two nuclear subs into the waters off of the Korean peninsula, the New York Times reported. Trump said he anticipates “a major, major conflict” with North Korea, due to its nuclear missile programs.
Leaks such as this one could push the already paranoid and unpredictable president of North Korea Kim Jong-un over the edge. With Trump indicating that all actions are possible, Kim is ever more determined build a nuclear warhead able to reach mainland U.S.
The American president bragged to Duterte that he had “a lot of firepower over there,” the New York Times reported. In a call between the two men on April 29, Trump said:
‘We have two submarines — the best in the world. We have two nuclear submarines, not that we want to use them at all.’
The Americas division of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs released a report based upon a transcript of the call prepared by the Philippine government and marked “confidential.” An anonymous senior White House administrator confirmed the authenticity of the transcript.
The United States sent the nuclear-powered USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier to join the nuclear submarine USS Michigan waters off the Korean peninsula in late April.
Trump complimented Duterte on how he handled the Philippine drug problem. The U.S. president said Duterte had done an “unbelievable job on the drug problem,” according to the New York Times. The Philippine president ordered vigilante murders of people suspected of using or dealing drugs. As a result, nearly 9,000 people have died. The New York Times reported 45 said:
‘I just wanted to congratulate you because I am hearing of the unbelievable job on the drug problem. Many countries have the problem, we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that…’
‘We had a previous president [Barack Obama] who did not understand that, but I understand that.’
Continuing with his infatuation with strong men, Trump invited Duterte to the White House – twice.
