Trump’s Former Russian Aide Turns On Him – Seeks Immunity To Testify (DETAILS)

Just as reports surface that Donald Trump is now taking drastic measures to defend himself against mounting evidence that he more than allegedly conspired with the Russian government during Election 2016, it looks as if someone once close to Trump may be willing to levy the ultimate check mate. This latest report is yet another damning blow to the Trump camp as evidence against him continues to mount.

The New York Times tweeted a bombshell story revealing that Oleg V. Deripaska, a confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin, reached out to at least three members of Congress asking if he could testify in exchange for immunity. Indicating that he may have engaged in illegal acts himself, it appears as though Deripaska wasn’t willing to testify simply because it’s the right thing to do. He wanted the assurance that his testimony wouldn’t lead to him being arrested, charged, or otherwise in legal trouble:

Deripaska’s sudden willingness to be of help to the U.S. ironically surfaces as his relationship with Paul Manafort comes under harsher scrutiny by the F.B.I. Deripaska and Manafort have a long history of doing business together that dates back to the early 2000s when Manafort was also serving as a consultant to Kremlin-supported politicians in Russia. Adding to the the coincidence of the connection, Manafort’s  relationship with Deripaska went south and ended with a bitter lawsuit.

Deripaska’s efforts were clever and perhaps even noble in some ways, but didn’t end as he wished; his offer to testify in exchange for immunity was denied. Citing concerns that immunity for witnesses often makes criminal investigations more difficult, Senate and House officials decided that making a deal with this particular witness just wasn’t worth it.

Reactions to this latest news in the Trump-Russia saga, were mixed with social media users. Some believed that the decision on the part of Washington lawmakers was smart considering that there will be several more to roll on Trump, soon:

One person even hinted that Putin himself is directly involved in Deripaska’s willingness to testify :

To support the above claim, another user reminds that if Deripaska was turning on the Russian government without Putin’s knowledge, it would literally be a matter of life or death for Deripaska:

Others are simply angry:

Reactions aside, the fact that Russian operatives are willing to turn federal evidence and testify against the commander-in-chief of the United States of America, is major. Unfortunately, there is currently no information as to whether or not there are lawmakers who oppose the decision to decline giving Deripaska immunity in exchange for hearing what he has to say about Donald Trump.
