Trump Jr. Gets On Twitter & Launches Into Bizarrely Aggressive Diatribe; Internet Responds

The apple truly does not fall far from the tree. Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter on Saturday to comment on one of the storylines to come out of his dad’s just concluded overseas trip, and he showed himself yet again to be just as childish and petty as his father.

What Trump Jr. commented on is a Fox news story that notes, as other news outlets have noted, that a number of NATO leaders appeared to snicker when, while addressing a NATO summit, Trump demanded that the rest of the alliance’s member countries pay their “fair share.”

Adding his comment to a Fox story titled, “Leaders Appear to Snicker as Trump Calls on NATO Allies to Pay Their ‘Fair Share,'” Trump Jr. wrote, “They laughed more when they didn’t have to pay. Be as snide as you want but you’re going to finally pay your share. The free ride is over!”

The thing is, there is — unsurprisingly — a good reason for why the NATO leaders in question laughed when Trump suggested that they pay their “fair share” from here on out. As the New York Times explains, the “fair share” figure of 2 percent of GDP that Trump cites is a general guideline set by the alliance for what each member nation should be paying for their own respective national security systems each year.

Trump told the recent NATO summit:

‘NATO members must finally contribute their fair share and meet their financial obligations, for 23 of the 28 member nations are still not paying what they should be paying and what they’re supposed to be paying for their defense.’

The issue with Trump’s remarks is that no NATO member country is in arrears on any required financial outlay for defense. Some countries simply don’t spend as much on their own defense as general guidelines set by NATO suggest.

Trump is making an issue where there’s not one — which is actually a strategy that he used heavily during the campaign season.

Trump Jr., unsurprisingly, is ready and willing to jump on his dad’s bandwagon, even though he doesn’t know what he’s talking about while echoing his dad’s remarks anymore than his dad does.

The snark is real.
