A belligerent President Trump told reporters at his first press conference since the Thursday Senate Intelligence Committee hearing featuring fired FBI Director James Comey that he is “100%” willing to testify under oath himself.
Trump and his team have taken a belligerent stance since Comey testified, claiming repeatedly that the former FBI Director lied. Replying to a question from ABC’s Jonathan Karl in a Friday Rose Garden press conference, Trump asserted, for instance, that he “did not say” that he hoped the Michael Flynn investigation would be dropped.
Karl followed up a couple more denials from Trump by asking if he would be willing to testify under oath to give his version of events, with the President replying that he would be “100%” willing to do so.
‘I hardly knew [Comey]. I’m not going to say, “I want you to pledge allegiance.” Who would do that? Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance under oath? I mean think of it — I hardly know the man. It doesn’t make sense.’
Trump eventually added that he would be “glad” to tell Special Counsel for the Russia investigation Robert Mueller “exactly” what he just told Karl.
