Well here we go, folks. Unsurprisingly, many on the left are already very concerned with what presidential candidate will emerge to challenge Donald Trump in 2020, and there’s someone new who might fill the need — former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder.
With Holder having served as the first African American Attorney General before his departure from the Obama Administration in 2015, he’s already in a position of prominence.
And indeed, with Trump having won the presidency pretty much solely by garnering the support of industrial workers in the Rust Belt who voted for President Obama at least once, Holder, with his clear association with Obama, might have a real chance.
Three anonymous sources “with knowledge of [Holder’s] thinking” revealed to Yahoo News that Holder is thinking about launching a 2020 presidential bid, and he all but confirmed this in his own remarks to the outlet.
‘There’s a justified perception that I’m close to President Obama. So I want to use whatever skills I have, whatever notoriety I have, to be effective in opposing things that are, at the end of the day, just bad for the country.’
Holder has been serving as an outside counsel to the state of California in their efforts to create policies that keep the Trump Administration’s volatility at bay.
