President Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to address the ongoing Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare. Of course, Twitter had a lot to say to the president in response to this.
The Senate’s version of the American Health Care Act was recently unveiled, but a number of GOP Senators, including Mike Lee and Ted Cruz, have announced that they are opposed to the bill in its present form. These Senators cite “a variety of reasons” for why they are “not ready” to vote in favor of the AHCA, otherwise known as Trumpcare.
The simplified consensus among these Senators is that the AHCA is “too similar to Obamacare.”
Sen. Ted Cruz said in a statement obtained by CNN:
‘As currently drafted, this bill draft does not do nearly enough to lower premiums. That should be the central issue for Republicans — repealing Obamacare and making healthcare more affordable.’
Similar issues were raised by ultra-conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus when the AHCA first came up to the floor in the House of Representatives.
It’s very telling for Sen. Cruz to cut right to the chase in his statement provided to CNN and say that the bill, as is, doesn’t do enough to lower premiums, in his estimation. To Sen. Cruz and those who are ideologically allied with him, the most important thing is saving money, not saving lives.
And, as brash as that assessment sounds, it isn’t conjecture. Just look at their public statements.
Senate Republicans can only stand to lose two members of their party, with them having 52 seats in the Senate. (In the case of an even split, with 50 Senators on one side and 50 on the other, VP Mike Pence would break the tie — in favor of the Republicans, obviously.)
With this issue in mind, President Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to try and passive-aggressively shame the dissenting Republican Senators into supporting Trumpcare. After all, Trump doesn’t have much progress to show for his time in office thus far, so he really wants Trumpcare passed.
He wrote on Twitter:
‘I cannot imagine that these very fine Republican Senators would allow the American people to suffer a broken ObamaCare any longer!’

Remember, “broken” Obamacare provides healthcare to tens of millions of people, and its repeal under the American Health Care Act stands to strip these same tens of millions of people of their healthcare.

You'll say anything so you can put this in the "win" column. This isn't about healthcare, it's about your ego.
You're human garbage.

The United States needs to stop treating sick people as an opportunity for profit. That's the answer.

Why would these Senators agree to a bill that harms millions of Americans while offering HUGE tax break to the wealthy?
That’s just evil.— MatthewDicks (@MatthewDicks) June 24, 2017
