There have been a veritable plethora of instances whereby Donald Trump could’ve and should’ve exercised the type of leadership that shows he is sincere about his desire to unify America. Those situations include Independence Day, a holiday that for some serves as a cruel reminder of America’s hurtful past. For, while colonists were celebrating freedom from Great Britain, Native Americans and African slaves were being horribly oppressed.
Nevertheless, the Fourth is observed in the U.S. and in theory, could be a chance for Trump to acknowledge the country’s bittersweet history, honor the soldiers who have fought, still fight for the freedoms citizens enjoy, and serve as the thread that brings the principles America is supposed to stand for together. In practice, Independence Day is nothing more than another chance for Trump to go play golf at one of his resorts.
In fact, July 4, 2017 marks Donald Trump’s 35th golf trip. For those who prefer percentages, that means Trump has spent 21 percent, nearly a fourth of his time in office, golfing.
Proving himself to be a consummate hypocrite, Trump used frequently misplaced harsh criticism against President Obama for his far less frequent golf trips. Trump once said:
‘I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again, I don’t think I’d ever see Doral again; I own Doral in Miami. I don’t think I’d ever see many of the places that I have. I don’t think I’d ever see anything. I’d just wanna stay in the White House and work my ass off, make great deals, right.’
However, Trump’s White House attendance record proves that he has done anything but, “just stay in the White House,” a fact that NBC News writer Bradd Jaffy highlighted via Twitter:
Today is Trump’s 35th day at a golf club since taking office. He’s been at a golf club on 21% of days as president.

It’s probably not surprising that people were quick to jump to Trump’s defense:
And since most business deals take place on golf courses, that means he’s working too?

His own green, what the heck he can do whatevs…….?

There were cheers and roaring applause when Trump made his comments about President Obama’s golf habits. People rush to Trump’s defense when he is called out about how often he plays golf. However, individuals from both of these groups will swear that Donald Trump and others didn’t hold President Obama to a different standard/judge him more harshly because of the color of his skin.
Because of the flaws in the arguments of people like Donald Trump, there have to be those who are a bit more honest in their assessment of things. Some of those folks also sounded off in response to news that Trump put golfing above the dozens of other things he could use the Fourth to do:

Is 45 at least good at golf? Because he’s not so good at the whole being president thing. pic.twitter.com/sV5AEU34LU

Candidate Trump was just as fake as he is as POTUS now the difference is he has the power to destroy & get away with it thanks to the @GOP

I suspect lots of people would love a job where they can spend most of their time golfing, tweeting and watching TV!

I would say he is such a joke but there’s nothing funny about him. He’s destroying this country just as he intended along with his cronies!

Unfortunately, the sad reality that Donald Trump and those who subscribe to his double-standard-packed beliefs is the reason why for some, Independence Day continues to be nothing to celebrate.
