Marco Rubio Responds To Trump’s Sunday Morning Twitter Rant Like A Boss

Early Sunday morning, President Trump fired off a tweetstorm summing up both his time at the just concluded G-20 summit and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of that summit. Trump has, of course, long suckered up to Putin, and it was no different in either his meeting with the Russian president or his tweetstorm summing up that meeting. Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio, however, was not having it.

Trump and his aides say that the U.S. president discussed Russian meddling in our elections during his meeting with the Russian president. Where accounts begin to differ, however, among those involved is on the question of whether or not Trump “accepted” Putin’s denial of meddling in the 2016 presidential election. Although “official” White House accounts claim otherwise, the president’s Sunday tweetstorm seems to indicate that yes, he “accepts” Putin’s denial of involvement in the 2016 hack of the Democratic National Committee.

Trump wrote on Twitter this Sunday morning:

‘Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded and safe.’

Just sit back and take a minute to bask in the ridiculousness of Trump wanting to form an “impenetrable Cyber Security unit” with Putin. Evidently, Trump accepts Putin’s assertion that it was someone else, not him, who ordered the hacking of the DNC.

Well, Florida Republican Senator and former presidential candidate Marco Rubio caught on to the ridiculousness of all that’s going on here. In a statement posted to Twitter on Sunday, he ridiculed the president’s idea of forming an “impenetrable Cyber Security unit” with the Russians.

Rubio was blunt. He wrote:

‘While reality & pragmatism requires that we engage Vladimir Putin, he will never be a trusted ally or a reliable constructive partner. Partnering with Putin on a “Cyber Security Unit” is akin to partnering with Assad on a “Chemical Weapons Unit”… Problem is with Putin & his oppression, war crimes & interference in our elections.’

Check it out below.

Rubio, of course, is quite right in his assessment of the ridiculousness of taking Vladimir Putin to be a reliable security partner. Rubio has yet to turn this opposition to Trump’s agenda into something legislatively tangible, but that’s a different story.
