Trump Jr. Brags About Hundreds Of V.A.’s Being Fired & Immediately Regrets It

Donald Trump Jr., who takes to Twitter even more often than his father, tweeted this Sunday morning about the just released report that over 500 employees of the Veterans Administration have been fired since Donald Trump took office in January. This news by itself has the potential to be good for America’s veterans, but as with everything in the Trump Administration, it’s tainted by the administration’s actions, and Twitter, of course, had a lot to say about this.

This week, the Department of Veterans Affairs posted a comprehensive list of every disciplinary action taken against an employee of the Veterans Administration since Trump took office on January 20. Including the 526 firings, there have been a total of 747 disciplinary actions taken against VA employees since January. The data posted online by the Department of Veterans Affairs does not name the individuals who have been either fired or suspended, and it doesn’t say why each individual was fired or suspended, either.

President Trump recently signed a piece of legislation into law that makes it easier for the VA to fire people, in a move unsurprisingly touted by members of the administration as key to moving the operations of the VA forward.

The presently serving Secretary of Veterans Affairs, David Shulkin, is a holdover from the Obama Administration. Commenting on his agency’s decision to make the data about firings and suspensions public, he told the press:

‘Veterans and taxpayers have a right to know what we’re doing to hold our employees accountable and make our personnel actions transparent.’

Names were withheld in the data because of privacy laws. The data does not say why each individual employee was fired or suspended; it simply notes that they were.

Trump Jr. commented of the newly released data from the VA on Twitter this Sunday, writing:

‘A great start, need to get replace bureaucrats w thinkers: Hundreds of VA officials fired since Trump’s inauguration.’

First of all, what? “Need to get replace” — did you get your education from Betsy Devos, Trump Jr.?

Secondly, there is no indication that the firings represent bureaucrats being replaced with thinkers. Rather, the firings represent just that — firings — and the Trump Administration is not following them up by actually allotting resources to replace the fired people with decent workers and add to the already thin VA workforce.

But yeah, everything is fine and dandy.
