It looks really bad for Donald Trump Jr. and other top Trump campaign officials, according to the leading Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Representative Senator Adam Schiff of California told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski what will most likely happen to the president’s eldest son.
Schiff said that top Trump campaign aides met with the highly placed Russian lawyer Natalia Veseintskaya in June of 2016. Trump’s eldest son was the figurehead of the meeting which also included President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chief Paul Manafort.
The representative said that he was pushing for all of them to testify before his committee, according to “Morning Joe”:
‘These participants are all going to have to come before the committee. We’re going to have to try to obtain any relevant emails and documents.’
These members of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign thought that Veseintskaya was going to hand them damaging opposition research on the Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton. Schiff said that it “could very well be illegal” for those running for the presidency to accept money or in-kind donations from any foreign government. This would fall under the in-kind category.
In the middle of Schiff’s appearance on “Morning Joe”, Donald Trump Jr. sent out a tweet accusing the Democrats of being “extremely invested in the Russia story.”
‘Media & Dems are extremely invested in the Russia story. If this nonsense meeting is all they have after a yr, I understand the desperation!’

The top House Intelligence Committee Democrat said in his “Morning Joe“ interview:
‘The evolving accounts from Don Jr. don’t inspire a lot of confidence. This is someone who was very adamant, never had any of these meetings, never had any kind of help or offers of help, this is preposterous. Of course, he’s had to evolve his story many times since, and I’m sure he will evolve it many times in the future. So I don’t give that a whole lot of credit.’
Former White House Counsel for President Barack Obama, Bob Bauer commented about Donald Trump Jr.’s statement regarding the meeting on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports”:
‘I don’t see how anyone could say there was nothing to it.’
