BREAKING: Trump Panics After Feds Move To Force Paul Manafort To Snitch & Become Informant

As the investigation into the Trump team’s possible connections to Russian efforts to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election continues to mature, there is a new report out from Reuters this weekend stating that federal investigators are hoping to get former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to “turn” and “cooperate with their probe into possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.”

The possibility that the office of Special Counsel for the Russia investigation Robert Mueller could get Manafort to work for them comes as the latest development in the saga of the FBI’s inquiry into the former Trump campaign chairman’s personal finances. Investigators have been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes on the part of Trump or his associates, and they have found a lead in the form of Manafort’s purchase of three New York properties over the past ten or so years that he almost immediately took out large mortgages on after purchase.

Although Reuters notes that they have no evidence that Manafort committed any crimes, a former senior U.S. law enforcement official tells them that buying properties and then immediately taking out large mortgages on them is a tactic often used to hide laundered money.

An investigation into Manafort’s New York real estate dealings was underway when former New York District Attorney Preet Bharara was still in office, and it’s been taken over since President Trump fired Bharara by the office of Special Counsel for the Russia investigation Robert Mueller. One of the sources speaking to Reuters says that if Mueller’s investigation ever comes up with evidence that could prompt criminal charges against Manafort, such would be key to getting him to “turn.”

The response of Paul Manafort’s spokesperson to the Reuters story is strange.

Jason Maloni said:

‘Paul Manafort is not a cooperating witness. Once again there is no truth to the disinformation put forth by anonymous sources and leakers.’

Maloni acts as though Reuters is reporting that Manafort already turned; but they’re not reporting that. Rather, they are simply reporting that federal investigators want him to turn.

The issue of Manafort’s business dealings is hardly the only thing haunting him. Additionally, he was present at a 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Kremlin-connected lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who one of the meeting’s organizers had promised would provide dirt from the Russian government about Hillary Clinton. The Kremlin had long since hacked the DNC by the time that meeting took place.

For what it’s worth, there was talk at one point earlier this year of ousted National Security Adviser and retired U.S. Army General Michael Flynn turning and becoming an informant for the FBI on the activities of the Trump team when it comes to Russia, but that never happened. In reality, holding Flynn accountable for his alleged crimes outweighed the benefits of granting him immunity and allowing him to testify under those terms. Flynn, who has, besides Manafort, long been a focus of federal investigators, initially concealed both large cash payments from foreign government interests and meetings with former Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak.
