No, Trump, don’t try and jump on internet trends. It only makes you look even more out of place than you already do.

On Friday, he tweeted a “Flashback Friday” video of himself speaking at an April rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, about his administration’s efforts to crack down on the operations of the MS-13 gang. Trump is traveling to Long Island, New York, this Friday to discuss these efforts.

In the video, he gets basically just one point right, namely, that the MS-13 gang is very dangerous. On other points, however, including his blaming of the Obama Administration for letting the gang ever grow, he leaves the realm of reality and enters that of alternative facts.

In the video, Trump says:

‘The last very weak administration allowed thousands and thousands of gang members to cross our borders and enter into our communities where they wreaked havoc on our citizens. As you know, the bloodthirsty cartel known as MS-13 has infiltrated our schools, threatening innocent children. We’ve seen the horrible assaults and many killings all over Long Island — where I grew up… One by one, we’re finding the illegal immigrant gang members, drug dealers, and killers and removing them from our country, and once they are gone folks — you see what we’re doing — they will not let them back in; they’re not coming back.’

To start with, the rate of illegal border crossings actually went down under the Obama Administration, not up.

Additionally, deporting people isn’t going to solve the problem of gang violence in the United States anymore than firing everyone in the White House Communications Department is going to solve the problem of leaks.

CNN says that Trump Administration officials have never even been able to “give reporters any hard numbers of how many suspected MS-13 members are immigrants or were gang members when they migrated to the US.” That doesn’t bode well for how much the actual threat of the gang relates to the size of the Trump Administration’s response. Like during Trump’s remarks to the Harrisburg crowd, the president and his staffers continue to cite the gang as evidence for why the president’s proposed draconian immigration policies are supposedly needed.

Trump also tweeted a Fox News clip discussing the threat of MS-13, and you can check that out below.
