President Trump has continued to hold campaign rallies since taking office, and at his most recent one, held Thursday night in West Virginia, he made some definitely noteworthy comments about the Russia investigation.
That investigation, led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, is continuing to probe the possible connections between Donald Trump’s team and Russia in light of the latter’s efforts to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
At his Thursday night rally, Trump denounced the investigation as nothing more than a “witch hunt” yet again.
Underscoring just why it is that what he was saying is so important to him, he told the crowd:
‘Most people know there were no Russians in our campaign, there never were. We didn’t win because of Russia, we won because of you.’
Indeed, Trump’s repeated denunciations of the Russia investigation are birthed out of a desire to not lose his base as much as anything else. Trump has undercut the authority of those in charge of the actual investigation numerous times; his agenda isn’t to uncover the truth. His agenda is just to make the whole thing go away.
Showing yet again just where his commitments lie, Trump hit the Democrats as somehow having made the whole Russia thing up as “retaliation” for losing the White House to Trump.
He told those assembled in West Virginia:
‘The reason why the Democrats talk about the totally made up Russia story is because they have no message, no agenda, and no vision. They don’t talk about the all time high stock market. They don’t talk about reforms at the VA, or about manufacturing jobs wee bringing back to America by the hundreds of thousands. They don’t talk about the Keystone pipeline that I immediately approved or the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Russia story is a total fabrication. It’s just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of American politics.’
For one, Trump is wrong, Democrats do talk about all those things he named.
Secondly, it’s not 2016 anymore, Trump. The concerns and considerations associated with winning or losing the 2016 election are now null and void. The Russia investigation is still active because it’s serious, not because it’s an election related political ploy.
Trump might know that, but his supporters almost surely don’t.

Showing yet again just how stuck in the campaign hype mindset he really is, he hit Hillary Clinton over her emails at one point, and making it even better/worse, the crowd responded with a chant of “Lock Her Up!”
