CNN reporter Pamela Brown states that new details have emerged in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation against President Trump and his connections to the Russian government and other Russian individuals.
It now appears that Mueller is focusing on Trump’s possible financial crimes. According to Brown:
‘Investigators are delving into financial crimes including some unconnected to the election. Investigators have combed through the list of shell companies and buyers of Trump-branded real estate properties. They’ve scrutinized the roster of tenants at Trump Tower in Manhattan — reaching back several years.’
Brown said the reason why they are zeroing in on financial crimes is because they create “a more concrete path to prosecution.” Brown also reported that:
‘CNN has learned new details of how Mueller is running his special counsel team. More than three dozen attorneys, FBI agents and support staff, experts in investigating fraud and financial crimes — broken into groups focused separately on collusion and obstruction of justice.’
According to Brown, even leads that aren’t related to the Russia investigation are being referred to the special counsel. She said:
‘[E]ven investigative leads that are not connected to Russia but involve Trump associates are being referred to the special counsel to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate.’
Last month, in an interview with The New York Times, Trump complained that Sessions’ recusing himself from the Russia investigation was what led to the appointing of special counsel Robert Mueller. Trump said:
‘Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else.’
During the The Times interview, he was also asked if Mueller would be crossing a red line if he expanded his investigation to look at ties going beyond Russia. Trump said:
‘I would say yes. I think that’s a violation. Look, this is about Russia.’
Mueller is thorough and he seems to be taking Trump down little by little. New details are emerging every day, and Trump and his administration can’t run fast enough. He knows they are catching up and it’s just a matter of time.
