A recent poll revealed that, after 200 days in office, President Trump’s favorability ratings are lower than ever, among Republicans as well as Democrats. A poll from CNN, which a GOP strategist said should put all of Trump’s staffers on “24-hour suicide watch,” shows that only 59 percent of Republicans strongly approve of the job Trump is doing, compared to 73 percent who strongly approved in February.
Among the growing number of Republicans who disapprove of the way Trump has handled his first 200 days in office is former presidential candidate Jeb Bush.
On Tuesday, Univision News questioned Bush about his opinion on what the president has accomplished so far, and Bush did not hesitate to express his frustration over Trump’s inane tweets, constant bullying, and penchant for creating “controversy where there’s no need for it.”
Bush said about Trump’s presidency so far:
‘It’s exhausting. I mean, it’s an incomplete grade in the sense that not much has been done. But it feels like the whole world’s been turned upside down. He’s created controversy where there’s no need for it. He should lead. And all of this tweeting and the pushing down people to make himself look better is not helping.’
Bush also said that he prays for Trump, his family, and the United States as a whole.
‘In the world, he has not dealt with a major crisis yet, but there are three or four that are brewing. I hope and pray for him and his family and I pray for my country.’
He then added that he hopes Trump will soon assume “the mantle of leadership that he has not yet done.”
When asked if his own world has been “turned upside down” after losing to Trump, Bush replied:
‘No, to the contrary. I’ve got a blessed life.’
This is not the first time that Bush has criticized Trump. In July, during the OZY Fest in New York, Bush encouraged the president to stop tweeting and “govern.”
He also implored his fellow Republicans to be as critical of Trump as they were of President Obama. Referring to the way many Republicans have responded to the investigation into Trump’s Russia ties, Bush said:
‘If Barack Obama did something as it related to Russia and you say, “This is outrageous,” then when your guy does the same thing, have the same passion to be critical.’
