Despite no longer being in office (although many people wish he were) President Obama has a record of showing up Donald Trump where responses to major issues is concerned. For some reason, Donald Trump has it in his head that by making everything about him, minimizing the magnitude of critical matters, etc., he is somehow doing something good. He’s not.
To that end, just days after President Obama hurt Donald Trump’s feelings by having his Charlottesville Tweet become the most liked in the history of Twitter, Obama once again modeled what leadership and compassion really look like. With regard to Hurricane Harvey, Obama tweeted:
In the spirit of “I’m not racist, I have black friends,” and as if hundreds of thousands of people haven’t lost everything they have and aren’t fleeing to safety, Donald Trump thought it would be a good idea to shamelessly plug Sherriff David Clarke’s book:
Isn’t everyone thinking about Sheriff Clarke right now?
Trump didn’t stop there with showing that he is a heartless, clueless, and privileged individual. He also took time to pat himself on the back:
As if anyone but Trump is still focused on Election 2016 and what states he did/didn’t win, Trump also tweeted:
As if the Mexican government didn’t provide aide after Hurricane Katrina, and isn’t willing to do the same again now, Trump also used Twitter to remind everyone that he is still as racist as critics say he is:
Aren’t you thinking about NAFTA during this time of national emergency? Donald Trump is:
In all of Trump’s tweeting, the one thing he forgot to do was send out prayers, well-wishes, positive thoughts, assurances of support, etc., for those being impacted by Harvey. However, that would give the impression that he actually cares and those who responded to his tweets, called him out big time for his lack of concern: Since it seems that Donald Trump doesn’t care enough about the people impacted by Harvey enough to address them with sincere empathy and concern, maybe it’s yet another sign that American citizens have to lead themselves. To that end, may those who have lost everything and are in the midst of seeking safety from the storm, be well taken care of and find comfort during this difficult time. May those charged with the tasks of search, rescue, etc. be kept safe. For those who are giving of themselves to help others during this time of need, know that your good work isn’t going unnoticed.
Another chance for Donald Trump to unify Americans, another time he fails to do so. Thank goodness Americans can still look to President Obama for leadership.
