For a few months there was a meme circulating social media that captioned a picture of Donald Trump having previously been quoted as saying:
‘If I were to run, I’d run as a Republican. They’re the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they’d still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific.’
As much as that passage sounds like something the super arrogant Trump would say, he didn’t. The meme was false.
As disappointing as it may be for some to accept that Trump didn’t make the insulting remarks, all hope isn’t lost. After all, it’s Donald John Trump and he never disappoints in the area of things he shouldn’t say, but does anyway.
With that in mind, a former aide to Jared Kushner is spilling the beans on Trump’s true feelings about the Republicans. Those feelings aren’t too far off from the sentiments expressed in the meme.
On Thursday evening, former Kushner aide, Elizabeth Spier told how much (or little) Donald Trump thinks of Republicans. According to Spier, Kushner felt that Trump’s birther claims regarding President Obama, all stemmed from Trump’s belief that Republicans are stupid and would fall for his propaganda because of their ignorance.
Per Spier, Kusher said:
‘Well, Elizabeth, he [Trump] didn’t mean any of those things. He’s just saying it because he thinks Republicans are dumb and they’ll buy it.’
The fact that Trump would say something like that is not the real story, though. He has repeatedly proven that he doesn’t think much of his GOP brethren, Trump’s frenemy relationship with Chris Christie is proof of that. The real story is that Republicans allow themselves to be belittled in the ways Trump denigrates them.
No matter how much of an imbecile Donald Trump proves himself to be, most Republicans refuse to stand up to him. Therefore, as painful as it is to admit, Donald Trump may have told the truth about something. In general, Republicans are dumb. They were dumb enough to believe that President Obama wasn’t an American citizen; they’ve also been dumb enough to support Donald Trump.
What’s the moral of the story? In general, Republicans, specifically those who support Donald Trump, are dumb enough to buy anything, even the idea that Donald Trump could run the United States of America.
