Although it is not official, POLITICO reported Sunday evening that sources revealed President Donald Trump had decided to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The program allowed the children of undocumented immigrants to remain in the country by issuing them work permits.
Trump’s already faced plenty of criticism and warnings from everyone including from within the Republican party. However, the strongest criticism yet came from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders via Twitter in a three tweet fury. The 2016 Democratic presidential candidate condemned the move calling it, “one of the ugliest and cruelest decisions ever made by a president.”
The popular senator is correct, and with a six-month delay before the roll out, Congress would have the opportunity to restore the program. However, Congress isn’t the best bet to put your money on lately. What it boils down to is children brought into the country by their parents (with little to no say) were given the opportunity to stay, to work, and work towards citizenship because it was the right thing to do. However, Trump is going to take that away from them.
Twitter users from both sides of the political aisle chimed in voicing their thoughts on the senator’s comments and Trump’s latest shameful move. Several responses turned into heated debates on Sanders’ Twitter page.
