The latest outrage from the Trump presidency has many people talking, including lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Rumors are swirling that President Donald Trump plans to uphold his campaign promise to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, deporting about 800,000 people brought to the United States as children. Keeping this cruel and inhumane plan will certainly satisfy Trump’s racist base, but it will also leave the most innocent immigrants with nowhere else to go.
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) expressed his thoughts on the matter on Twitter, earning over 17,000 likes and close to 7,000 retweets by followers who support his words.
Dear Republicans, your moment has come. Every Democrat will join you. Show the courage and grace to save these children, and our nation. https://t.co/M8bGZqpYmT

In order to be eligible for the DACA program, one must have been brought into the United States at less than 16 years old, have been living in the country for more than seven years, and cannot have a felony. Most have immediate family members living in the United States with differing citizenship statuses and at least 95 percent are currently working and supporting themselves. Additionally, studies show that DACA-eligible immigrants have made a positive impact on the economy of the U.S.
Most of Senator Murphy’s Twitter followers agreed with his statement wholeheartedly.
