Trump’s decision to phase out DACA has rubbed both Republicans and Democrats alike the wrong way. DACA is a program from the Obama-era that allowed those who were brought to America as children to live their lives and work freely without the constant risk of deportation over their head.
It was announced on Tuesday by Attorney General Jeff Sessions that over the next six months the program will be gradually phased out, with hopes that it would give legislators time to work on and pass a new immigration bill.
Donald Trump, however, has attempted to put the DREAMers’ minds at ease, by tweeting out a message. In his tweet, the president claims that those covered by the DACA need not worry about their status during the 6 month period he is giving legislators to work out some form of an immigration bill.
Unsurprisingly enough, this did not really put many people’s minds to rest or alleviate their worries. Many Twitter users begged the question: what happens after the 6 months? Are those covered with by the DACA just going to be kicked out of America? While it may be a short term band-aid on a harsh blow, it does not really promise the DREAMers a stable future in America.
