Top Trump White House Staffers Panic Over Russia Investigation & Leak Inside Drama To Media

There is a fire of fear burning in the White House. Everyone seems to be hiring attorneys. Even the attorneys are hiring attorneys, and for good reason. It all started when Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. In an interview with Charlie Rose on 60 Minutes, Steve Bannon explained how disastrous the consequence of that was.

The former White House Chief Strategist is now back at home at Brietbart News, and he seems to be freer with his words now that he is no longer confined within the West Wing walls. Rose asked Bannon a crucial question in a 60 Minutes Overtime excerpt of their interview, according the CBS News:

‘So the firing of James Comey was the biggest mistake in modern political history?’

With a few particles of modesty Bannon drew back from a previous description of this being the “biggest mistake in history.” He told Rose:

‘I think, if you’re saying that that’s associated with me, then I’ll leave it at that…I don’t think there’s any doubt that if James Comey had not been fired, we would not have a special counsel, yes. We would not have the Mueller investigation. We would not have the Mueller investigation and the breadth that clearly Mr. Mueller is going for.’

Now, Mueller’s shadow seems to loom everywhere in the West Wing as the Special Counsel investigates Russia’s interference into the 2016 presidential election. Most recently, Mueller intends to interview a number of current and former West Wing aides. Too late, they discovered that they will be caught in the web of the investigation, as is anyone who even sat in on a conversations with those guilty of obstruction of justice. The associates will probably be witnesses, but as Mueller continues to pull all the threads leading to various crimes, that is an uncomfortable place to be caught.

Involved White House aides who spoke with Mike Allen and Jonathan Swift of Axios have determined several possible reasons for Mueller’s actions: He might be going for the obstruction of justice charges or to generate legal fees. Trump’s original letter explaining why he fired Comey and which never came to light could be evidence of Trump’s state of mind.

These aides are especially concerned about the financial side of the investigation. Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, commingled his business affairs with the president’s. They point to the planned Trump Tower in Moscow that never got off of the ground, but Trump pursued it all throughout his presidential campaign. Certainly, aides do not want to be linked with shady Russian characters.

People affiliated with the president say he has considered firing Mueller, but one of them told Axios:

‘The damage would be as horrendous as “firing the Pope.”‘
