In last year’s election, President Trump won the state of Florida by more than 100,000 votes. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that, when he was passing out sandwiches to victims of Hurricane Irma on Thursday, a number of the people he met were people who voted for him in November.
As people lined up for food on Thursday, the president thanked them for their support. He even offered one man who was wearing a Trump campaign shirt an extra sandwich:
‘You’re wearing a good shirt, take two.’
Trump also didn’t hesitate to gloat after another supporter told reporters who were covering the visit that President Obama was playing golf during the last hurricane that hit Florida.
The supporter originally made the comment to Trump, who then encouraged him to face the cameras and tell the whole world what he’d just said:
‘Where was Obama on the last hurricane? He was playing golf.’
Trump then pointed to himself and asked the man if voting for him had been a “good vote.” The man responded by saying that it was “the best” vote.
After hearing this, Trump turned to the reporters and bragged about the man’s comments:
‘He said the best vote of his life.’
Trump was, of course, happy to show the press that someone still supports him. However, he made a pretty embarrassing mistake when he had the man publicly declare that Obama was golfing during the last hurricane that hit Florida.
The problem with this statement, of course, is that the last hurricane that Florida experienced was Hurricane Wilma, which hit in 2005, four years before Obama was elected.
Bloomberg reporters Alex Wayne and Toluse Olorunnipa tweeted about the exchange on Thursday morning.
A video producer for Reuters, Jonah Green, also shared a video of it.

Those who commented on the above tweets and video were not particularly surprised that the Trump supporter didn’t realize how inaccurate his remark was; however, their lack of surprise didn’t stop them from expressing their disgust and frustration with the president and his fans.
