An attempted joke during a speech to the Air Force is catching Trump some heat on social media.
While speaking to members of the United States Air Force at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump made an attempt at humor he probably should have kept to himself.
“Fighter pilot is an attitude. It’s cockiness. It’s aggressiveness. It’s [self-confidence]. You know that. It is confidence. It is a streak of [rebelliousness],” the president said, turning and asking the assembled cadets behind him, “Is that true?” Then he turned back to the audience, and continued with,
‘I just met a lot of these folks. They’re better looking than Tom Cruise, and we know they can fight better, and we know they can fly better. They better be able to.’
Here’s the video of his statement, which was part of a speech commemorating the 70th birthday for the service branch:

Well, this is awkward, but Trump, just so you know — Tom Cruise was a Navy pilot in Top Gun, not an Air Force pilot. It’s a small detail, but it just goes exactly how little thought goes into virtually everything that comes out of Trump’s mouth. Folks on Twitter aren’t letting him live it down, either:
Many of those behind him didn’t even laugh, either. That’s somewhat surprising — in a situation like that, when the president tells a joke, laughter is expected regardless of the humor in the joke.
Also, for those who aren’t familiar with this little gem from a few months ago, Trump knows basically nothing about the Air Force. CNN did a great job putting together a list of the most notable quotes from that fiasco of a speech, including (but not limited to):
‘There will never be a time, I will tell you this, when we will be spending more money — we are doing the necessary money, we’re going to have the finest equipment of all times.’
The current Republican budget, by the way, plans to expand military funding by tens of billions.
