With all the chaos occurring in D.C., it’s important to remember that, in addition to congressional elections, there are also several important state elections happening in 2018. In Michigan, for example, the governor’s mansion will be up for grabs and Donald Trump has thrown his hat into the ring by endorsing Attorney General Bill “Shuette.” The main problem with this announcement is that there is no “Bill Shuette” running. Michigan’s Attorney General is “Bill Schuette.” One would think that Trump spell-check the names of people he’s endorsing, but apparently that’s too much trouble.
Sadly for Trump, Twitter remains an open platform meaning that anyone can comment on his announcements and endorsements and, based on Twitter’s response, Trump’s endorsement may do Schuette more harm than good. Of course, given Rick Snyder’s low approval ratings, any Republican gubernatorial candidate may have trouble taking office this time around. The governor’s poor response to the water crisis in Flint was one of his more publicized failures, but Snyder wasn’t universally beloved even before that.
In regards to Trump’s endorsement, here are some of Twitter’s best responses including a few from a Trump parody account.
