Trump supporters say that we are the snowflakes?
On Sunday night, the 69th Annual Emmy Awards were held, honoring the best of the best in television show business. Some of those to appear at the awards ceremony included the Hollywood luminaries Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda, who co-starred in the hit film 9 to 5 in 1980.
In that film, the three actresses’ characters — all secretaries — abduct their sexist, angry boss and take to running the company themselves. On Sunday night, the stars of that comedy all gathered on stage to present the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie — and if you haven’t heard or guessed yet, they had some choice words for the president in light of their past experience with angry sexists.
Fonda, who Vox calls “the most notoriously outspoken of the trio,” remarked to the audience:
‘Back in 1980, in that movie, we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.’
Tomlin followed Fonda up by saying:
‘And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.’
Anyone who’s not willfully blind can see that the women’s description of the president is accurate. Trump rode into office on a platform easily described as “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical” bigotry, promising, among other things, to deport the over thirteen million undocumented immigrants currently in the U.S. simply because they do not have their paperwork in order.
Even though Parton didn’t actually join in on her co-stars’ Trump-bashing, Trump supporters worked themselves up into a stupidly self-righteous fury over her very presence on the stage. Apparently, in Trump World, you can criticize anyone and everyone but Trump. Additionally, apparently it’s one of the seven deadly sins for an actor or actress to have and express their own personal political views.
Check out a selection of angry Facebook comments left on a completely unrelated post of Parton’s by Trump supporters reacting to the Emmys below.
We all know how these people would have reacted if Parton had appeared at the Emmys with people bashing President Obama.
