John McCain officially announced that he is opposed to the GOP repeal and replace bill currently being considered. The bill is co-sponsored by Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy and is being widely regarded as the Republican’s last attempt at honoring their promise to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
In a statement, McCain said:
‘I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried.’
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel sang praise to McCain for his open opposition to the bill, dubbing him a “hero.” It is unsurprising that Kimmel would cheer on McCain in his opposition, as Kimmel has publicly expressed his lack of support for the Graham-Cassidy proposal on numerous occasions.
John McCain’s wife, Cindy, reached out to Kimmel over Twitter to thank him for the “kind words” he had spoken of her husband.
Responses to McCain’s thank you to Kimmel were overwhelmingly positive. Many of those who responded wanted to thank John McCain as well for being one of the few to show human decency, in opposing the Graham-Cassidy proposal.
