A rally was held for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange on Friday, at which Trump made a fool of himself again. The president stated that if during NFL games players chose to kneel during the national anthem that those in attendance should just “pick up and leave.”
The president stated:
‘When people like yourselves turn on the television, and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem – the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium. I guarantee things will stop.’
‘Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired.”’
The head of the NFL Players Association, the union that represents professional football plays, was not going to let Trump’s comments slide. On Saturday, he stated that he “will never back down” from supporting the players’ right to protest.
