Back in February, Trump’s White House adviser Kellyanne Conway was heavily criticized after she went on Fox & Friends urging the public to buy Ivanka Trump’s products. According to CBS News:
‘Conway, as a counselor to Mr. Trump, is a federal employee. Her urging of American voters to buy Ivanka Trump’s products quickly raised questions given a federal ethics rule that bars officials from using their roles to promote products. Federal law says “an employee shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise.”’
Conway was quickly reprimanded by the White House over the matter to avoid it ever happening again, but apparently President Trump missed the memo. Trump is now using Twitter to boost the popularity of his buddy and former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. O’Reilly was fired by the network back in April “after the disclosure of a series of sexual harassment allegations against him.” Fox had paid off at least six women who O’Reilly had sexually harassed.
Tonight Trump retweeted O’Reilly’s personal tweet, showing that he condones a man who made a disgusting habit out of mistreating women, which really isn’t surprising since Trump has openly bragged about sexually assaulting women himself. Trump and O’Reilly are two disgusting peas in a pod.
Many people had opinions on the matter on both sides of the fence.
On Monday, The Office of Government Ethics Twitter account posted a document listing 14 different general ethics principles that government employees should follow.
Out of the 14 ethics guidelines that were posted, the Trump Administration has violated eight of them. The document begins with these three items:
The OGE has mostly been a low-key agency and hasn’t really been so blatantly involved until Trump came along. Trump and his administration present an exhausting test for the ethics guidelines practically on a daily basis. Regardless of whether he knows that his O’Reilly retweet is a violation of ethics rules, it is pretty certain that he doesn’t really care. Whatever Trump can do to advance his corrupt buddies and his corrupt self are what goes.
