Nick Ayers may not be a household name, but he is well-known in top Republican circles because he serves as the aide to Vice President Mike Pence. Part of his job entails liaising with the Republican National Committee (RNC). On Tuesday he was representing Pence at an RNC event that was held at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington.
Addressing the roomful of wealthy donors, POLITICO reports:
‘Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff railed against congressional leaders in closed-door remarks to wealthy donors and called for a “purge” if GOP lawmakers don’t quickly rally behind President Donald Trump’s agenda.’
A “purge” if people don’t support Trump’s agenda? While it is often joked about that we have slid into an alternate timeline under the Trump administration, the threats issued by Ayers don’t just sound like an alternate timeline — in fact, they don’t resemble anything remotely like a democracy. That might lead one to wonder what manner of Fascism we have slipped into where political threats of “purging” become acceptable.
To those in the party who have not fully jumped into the vat of Trump-flavored Kool-Aid, Ayers carried an even more forceful message:
‘Just imagine the possibilities of what can happen if our entire party unifies behind him? If — and this sounds crass — we can purge the handful of people who continue to work to defeat him.’
While answering a question on how donors work to rally those that do support Trump and Pence to change leadership in both the House and Senate, Ayers answered:
‘I’m not speaking on behalf of the president or vice president when I say this. But if I were you, I would not only stop donating, I would form a coalition of all the other major donors, and just say two things. We’re definitely not giving to you, number one. And number two, if you don’t have this done by Dec. 31, we’re going out, we’re recruiting opponents, we’re maxing out to their campaigns, and we’re funding super PACs to defeat all of you.
‘Because, look, if we’re going to be in the minority again we might as well have a minority who are with us as opposed to the minority who helped us become a minority.’
So there you have it. Republicans have been warned. If they don’t bow down to the Trump agenda, they will be forced out by those who do support this oppressive regime. We need to wake up America. This type of bullying from the highest office in our country is unacceptable.
