Last Fall, Trump was running a presidential campaign largely around attacking Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and he and his staff were in connection with Russian officials in hopes of digging up dirt on Clinton. As if this wasn’t enough as a scandal, it appears that Donald Trump Jr. was advocating children using guns during that time period also.
Last September, Trump Jr. recorded a 40 minute-long infomercial for gun silencers. After the deadly attack that happened in Las Vegas during the early Sunday morning hours, it is important to be reminded of the Trump administration’s strong connections to the gun lobby. Stephen Paddock, a 64 year-old white man, killed 59 people and wounded more than 500 others.
During the infomercial, Trump Jr. says:
‘It’s about safety. It’s about hearing protection. It’s a health issue, frankly, for me.’
Then, the president’s son goes on to praise the silencer company’s product saying it would help get “little kids into the game” because “it greatly reduces recoil.” Trump Jr. tells the CEO of SilencerCo, a Utah-based company this:
‘I love your product. It’s just a great instrument. There’s nothing bad about it at all. It makes total sense.’
Donald Trump Jr’s ties to the gun lobby are indisputable, evidenced by the controversial gun silencer bill he has been trying to push through Congress as a strong ally of none other than SilencerCo’s CEO, Josh Waldron. According to The Daily Beast:
‘That bill, known as the Hearing Protection Act, which was rolled into the pre-existing Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act, was supposed to have a hearing on June 14—the day of the shooting that targeted GOP members of Congress who were practicing for the congressional baseball game.’
‘That hearing was canceled. But the bill stayed alive, awaiting a full vote on the House floor as soon as this week.’
The irony of the situation is that another mass shooting is delaying the vote one more time. People can heavily speculate about it being the reason the vote is not on the schedule this week.
The Daily Beast reported:
‘A few short weeks after the video went online, Josh and Audrey Waldron contributed a combined $50,000 to the Trump Victory fund, and each gave $2,700 to Trump’s campaign directly. Waldron’s affiliation with Trump Jr. seemed to offer additional perks. He was named to Trump’s “Second Amendment Coalition” and invited to the inauguration.’
