Donald Trump is going to be furious this morning. He is great at cutting the legs out from under anything positive that manages to come out of his administration. Most likely, the generals stay only out of a sense of duty to the country and fear that Trump will take us into World War III. There is one other person who is actively improving the U.S. position, but the president will probably kill him off soon.
Remember last summer when 45 went before the Boy Scouts and was more than inappropriate? He urged the boys to boo President Barack Obama, according to CNN:
‘By the way, just a question, did President Obama ever come to a jamboree?’
Then, Trump started talking about things totally out-of-place, when he should have been talking about the qualities that the Boy Scouts stand for. Instead, CNN reported, he talked about:
‘(A) life of yachts and sailing and all of the things he did in the south of France and other places…I saw him at a cocktail party, and it was very sad because the hottest people in New York were at this party.’
The president’s speech so rankled Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who used to head up this sterling organization, that he was going to quit. Just days before the speech, the secretary of state called Trump a “moron.” This happened after a Pentagon meeting with the president’s national security team and his Cabinet members. By then, people were leaving the administration in droves, either on their own or by being fired.
Vice President Mike Pence urged the man who is fourth in line to the presidency to stay at least until the end of the year. The VP advised Tillerson to keep his feelings out of the public eye and work behind the scenes to iron out any difficulties.
The administration was lucky to get Tillerson onboard. He headed one of the largest companies in the world, ExxonMobil, so he knew incompetence when he saw it and did not suffer fools lightly. He has been working successfully to smooth out relations with North Korea, while Trump appears intent upon antagonizing Kim Jong Un and leaving the leader no way to save face.
Last August, the president was livid with Tillerson when his secretary of state doubted Trump’s ability to handle the racial tensions and neo-Nazi violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. Tillerson appeared on Fox News Sunday after the event. When asked if he agreed with Trump, he said, according to NBC News:
‘The president speaks for himself.’
Trump was angry at first, but then he told Tillerson that he understood, as NBC News reported:
‘Tillerson was trying to say Trump is the best person to convey what his values are.’
If the secretary of state leaves, it will be the country’s loss.
