Trump promised the American people transparency during the 2016 election. However, that’s the last thing the American people are going to get especially if there are any shady dealings going on with countries like Russia.
In a new POLITICO report, the whole notion of a transparent Trump administration has been completely debunked. According to POLITICO, a Secret Service agent has admitted that very few, if any, records are kept on who goes in and out of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, which can be considered the winter White House. In fact, they have no system for tracking visitors. Special Agent Kim Campbell commented:
‘The…search and review of records confirmed that there is no system for keeping track of Presidential visitors at Mar-a-Lago, as there is at the White House complex. Specifically, it was determined that there is no grouping, listing or set of records that would reflect Presidential visitors to Mar-a-Lago.’
Campbell’s comments aren’t just the words of a gossipy agent telling the Fake News media what they want to hear and print. Her comments were made as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
‘The Justice Department filed Campbell’s declaration, signed under penalty of perjury, with a federal court in New York late Wednesday night in response to a FOIA lawsuit brought by three transparency-focused groups: the National Security Archive, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.’
The federal government was ordered by a judge to turn over documents related to the lawsuit; however, when the deadline came, they only submitted two-pages worth of Japanese officials who visited back in February. At first, they were accused of contempt; however, if there has never been a system to record visitors, then there would be nothing to turn over. So, could it be a lie? Perhaps. Could it also be the truth? Possibly. With the way the Trump administration has run the government thus far, it’s fair to assume the administration did not/would not set up a system for visitors at Mar-a-Lago.
It should be noted that there are some records kept by Secret Service regarding the president’s schedule. However, there are some record requests from individuals that Secret Service claims they never received.
‘Campbell’s declaration also reveals that the Secret Service was unable to find the initial request for White House Visitor records National Security Archive Kate Doyle maintains was faxed to the agency in January. The Secret Service also lacks any record of an administrative appeal Doyle claims to have faxed over in February…’
So, what does this mean? It means we have no clue who goes in and out of Mar-a-Lago, and there isn’t even a procedure in place to record those visitors. That means Russian ambassadors can be brought in secretly to talk about secretive things like collusion, deals, and favors. Anyone looking to buy a favor from the president could visit him at Mar-a-Lago, and there would be no record to refer back to.
