Psychotic Republican Politician Goes On Racist Televised Rant Against ‘Colored’ People

President Trump seems to have inspired a whole new generation of political hopefuls with the xenophobic rhetoric he spewed during his campaign. While Trump told his supporters that Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists, a mayoral candidate for the city of Hopkins, Minnesota recently warned that, if a light rail train expands its services to Hopkins, it will bring “trash,” “riff-raff,” and “coloreds” to the city.

At a mayoral debate, Bob Ivers — whose delivery style has been described by the Minneapolis City Pages as a combination of “the worst elements of Jesse Ventura, Donald Trump, Archie Bunker, and the least likable asshole taking up a stool at a suburban bar” — delivered the following rant about the proposed light rail train:

‘It’s another socialist yeah-yeah-yeah, um, um, um, ruination of a town. And this is what’s going to happen, and everybody be forewarned, and you listen, and you listen real close. All the Chicago and Detroit riff-raff that’s moved into “Welfare-apolis,” they’re going to get on that train. And you know where they’re going to end up? They’re going to end up down at the depot. And they’re going to end up with yours, and yours, and yours granddaughters, and daughters, and grandsons. And I predict within two months of that coming through here, there’s going to be a shooting down at that kid’s depot. So everybody think about that.’

Later on in the debate, Ivers reminded his audience that Hopkins is “90 percent white,” with “10 percent coloreds…and Mexicans and Asians that are here.” He then warned his fellow candidates that, if they build the “little yellow train that you’re all bravo about, you’re going to have all the ethnics you want.”

With a rant like that, it seems unlikely that Ivers will actually become Hopkins’ next mayor. This isn’t his first campaign, either. In 2015, he ran against Hopkins’ current mayor, Molly Cummings, and received just 7 percent of the vote (a total of 71 votes).

In a candidate profile that was published by the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Ivers wrote that his big proposal to improve Hopkins is to create “Hopkins Has Talent,” a talent showcase that would be held in a downtown park every Saturday. Some of his other plans for the city include being “tough on loitering, riff-raff, littering, and crime” and holding “all city employees” accountable:

‘Always lower property taxes. Prosecute businesses that knowingly sell pull tabs to mentally handicapped patrons. Tough on loitering, riff-raff, littering, and crime. I know it when I see it. Auditing and accountability of all city employees, including police and fire department. A fun mayor for everyone. Change is good. Let’s put Hopkins on the map in a big way! It’s 2015, let’s roll! Thank you.’
