President Trump made some remarks on Twitter on Wednesday that caused a lot of controversies. Trump logged onto Twitter after NBC released a story, which stated that the president was seeking to increase America’s nuclear arsenal. There were three officials that were reportedly in the room when Trump made these comments.
Trump then threatened to shut down major American networks, including NBC, claiming that they shared the fake news. Trump tweeted:
‘With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!’
Seeing as the president has always been critical of many major media outlets, it isn’t much of a surprise that he would want to shut networks. However, this raises a major concern for the American people.
During his first press conference since these concerning remarks, Trump made a fool of himself with even more ridiculous remarks, specifically regarding Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
Mnuchin has been under much public scrutiny as of late due to his costly travel habits aboard government jets. Mnuchin has requested a total of nine flights since becoming Us Treasury Secretary and not all of them were for official government business. One of the requests to use a government jet was for him to take a “honeymoon trip” to Europe.
It was discovered during an investigation run by the Treasury Department inspector general that, since taking office in February, Mnuchin was approved to take seven flights upon military aircraft, which in turn cost the taxpayers approximately $812,000. This included two separate rips for G-20 meetings, which cash in at more than $300,000 per flight.
President Trump made remarks about Mnuchin during his press conference on Wednesday, which is where he made himself look additionally foolish after his threatening tweets. President Trump had nothing bad to say about Mnuchin, claiming that he was “doing a good job.”
You would expect that a man who claimed that he had intentions to “drain the swamp” of overindulgent and costly privilege in Washington would have a little bit more of an adverse reaction to someone within his administration using costly private jets on the taxpayer’s dime.
