The hosts of Morning Joe have always been critical of President Donald Trump, as they should. They are trying to hold the man accountable for his actions. All news agencies should be doing that. However, after Trump’s latest stunt, they had an enormous amount of fun making fun of just how stupid the president is.
Earlier this week, Trump tweeted a complete meltdown over a report by NBC that revealed he wanted to increase America’s nuclear weapons back in July. They reported this meeting was what lead to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson calling Trump a “moron.” The troubling part about Trump’s tantrum was when he spoke about revoking the network’s license.
‘With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!’
He also tweeted:
‘Network news has become so partisan, distorted and fake that licenses must be challenged and, if appropriate, revoked. Not fair to public!’
Many criticized the president’s remarks especially since networks don’t actually have federal licenses. Individual television stations do have licenses. The last time a president did something like this was former President Richard Nixon, and we all know what happened to Nixon.
Needless to say, the Morning Joe hosts probably know a thing or two about licenses for networks/individual television stations. Mika Brezinski reported on it and brought up the fact that the New York Times noted that networks don’t have federal licenses. You can hear snickering in the background and then she goes on to say:
‘Only a moron would think that…’
After several clips of Trump claiming the NBC report was fake news, Brezinski went on to note that the NBC report sourced three anonymous officials who were in the actual room with him when it happened. Furthermore, Joe Scarborough made an observation that is beyond true. The Trump administration has asked for an investigation to be conducted to find out who is leaking the information to the press. By doing so, they are validating the fake news. If it were fake, it wouldn’t matter.
‘The president is saying they don’t exist… The president doesn’t understand these stories come from all around him. He’s actually conducting investigations on the leaks, so you can’t be conducting investigations on leaks and telling your FBI director to investigate leaks and then say they’re made up quotes.’
