Donald Trump made headlines recently for, among other things, insisting he would beat his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, in an IQ test. That statement came on the heels of an NBC report saying Tillerson had referred to trump as a “moron” for his statements on nuclear stockpiles. Seemingly, Trump simultaneously felt the report was “fake news” and that he needed to argue his case against it. Go figure.
Then again, Donald Trump is obsessed with IQ and has the world’s thinnest skin, so it does make some degree of sense. He loves to brag about how “smart” he is. One of his favorite things to brag about is the fact he went to the Wharton school of business, which was a staple statement during his campaign rallies. From the Guardian:
‘“I went to the Wharton School of Business,” he noted several times. “I’m, like, a really smart person.”’
‘In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in August 2015, Trump described Wharton as “probably the hardest there is to get into.” He added, “Some of the great business minds in the world have gone to Wharton.” He also observed: “Look, if I were a liberal Democrat, people would say I’m the super genius of all time. The super genius of all time.”’
So, how does Wharton feel about Trump’s alleged intelligence? Well, it’s been known for quite some time that he failed to excel at the school. Yet now, an even more damning description of his performance has been uncovered, showing that even “failed to excel” might be a little too much credit. According to a former professor, Trump was the “dumbest goddamn student” he’s “ever had.”
A longtime friend of Professor William T. Kelley, who died six years ago, printed his words because of the relevance now that Trump is bragging about himself from the White House. He published a diary at DailyKOS to detail his history with Donald’s professor. His words paint a familiar picture:
‘Professor Kelley told me 100 times over three decades that “Donald Trump was the dumbest goddam student I ever had.” I remember his emphasis and inflection — it went like this — “Donald Trump was the dumbest goddam student I ever had.” Dr. Kelley told me this after Trump had become a celebrity but long before he was considered a political figure. Dr. Kelley often referred to Trump’s arrogance when he told of this — that Trump came to Wharton thinking he already knew everything.’
There’s a good chance Trump only got into Wharton because of his dad’s connections.
“Thinking he already knew everything” also happens to be exactly why Trump is an idiot. It’s impossible to know how much intelligence he actually has, because any that he does have has been completely squandered through his arrogance. It’s impossible for him to learn. We’re talking about a man that things seasons disprove climate change, that he “knows more than the generals” about warfighting, and that thinks the human body is a battery and thus exercising will kill you faster. He doesn’t ascribe to expert opinion on any subject, so it stands to reason he would be an awful student – indeed, the “dumbest goddamn student ever” seems more than fair.
