At this point, you can bet money on the fact that the Trumps will work relentlessly to bring attention to supposed scandals of the Democrats, while simultaneously ignoring the serious scandals within their own circles. At least in the case of the Democrats, they actually work to address the scandals that arise within their party.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted a link to a write-up from The Daily Wire that details allegations that the Obama Administration’s Justice Department threatened someone who wanted to bring attention to supposed corruption underlying a sale of uranium to Russia that took place while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.
Just reading over the story once reveals a glaring issue with Donald Trump Jr.’s characterization of the situation. Although he would no doubt have you believe that the Obama era Justice Department was wrong in threatening legal action against the unnamed individual at the center of the scandal, there is an obvious good reason for the supposed threats — the individual with knowledge of the supposed corruption had signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Speaking to reporters this week, the lawyer for the unnamed individual who was in apparent contact with the FBI about supposed corruption said that she is “working with members of Congress” to see if she can get her client freed from the non disclosure agreement that he signed.
So where’s the scandal here again?
Although attorney Victoria Toensing’s client remains unnamed, he is described as “[a]n American businessman who worked for years undercover as an FBI confidential witness.” The businessman, during their work, became aware of “a lot of bribery going on around the U.S.”
There really isn’t the scandal here that Trump Jr. implies that there is, and yet he will no doubt stick to The Daily Wire’s line of reasoning regardless; he has his own scandals to distract the public from.
The longer you look at it, the more Trump Jr.’s argument that there is a scandal here falls apart. It’s not as though the FBI normally has their informants flinging around information; the information might need to be kept under wraps.
