Donald Trump doesn’t seem to have the best relationship with the rap community anymore. Once an oft-named symbol of wealth and fame in songs like Nelly’s “Country Grammar” and Ludacris’s “Hip Hop Quotable,” the new president has more recently become more of a symbol of hatred and white supremacy.
Following Eminem’s recent amazing performance on the BET Awards, in which he freestyled an epic takedown of the president, Snoop Dogg’s new single ‘Make America Crip Again’ is a full lyrical assault on Trump.
In the title song off his new album of the same name, Snoop begins by talking about his friends in the NFL and tells them, “don’t pretend like I’m with that bullsh*t your president’s been tweeting.” He continues pointing out how unwilling Trump has been to listen to the voices of people of color in America, saying “don’t you look strange, having all that power but you won’t make change.”
He goes further in supporting the protests of police brutality by NFL players, rapping “I’m thinking who my heroes be/thank God for the Negro League/Colin Kaepernick was blackballed/oh n*gga please/it’s still Amerikkka with three k’s/believe that sh*t.”
The song and album do not represent the first criticism by Snoop of the president. Snoop mock-shot a clown dressed like Trump in a video for his song, “Lavender.” Trump was quick to counter the attack on Twitter, preferring to throw tantrums over rap songs than lead the country.
Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!
