The members of the Trump Administration have a well documented and testy relationship not only with the media, but with the truth itself.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders put this fact on display Friday when, while speaking to reporters at her daily press conference, she insisted yet again that the real place to look for evidence of collusion with Russia is among the Democrats.
This insistence comes even though, just judging off the fact that the Special Counsel is investigating her boss, and not Hillary Clinton, there is no apparent evidence for this being the case.
Fox reporter John Roberts asked Sanders, in light of an early Friday tweet from the president, if he finds Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into his team for possible ties to Russia to be a waste of money.
Sanders responded by not only asserting that yes, the president finds the Russia investigation to be a waste of money, but also by turning the question around and attacking the press for having spent money covering the Russia scandal.
‘I think the president has been pretty clear what his position is. Congress has spent a great deal of time on this — a better part of a year. All of your news organizations have actually probably spent a lot of money on this as well, which we would probably consider a pretty big waste.’
Sanders is again pretending as though she has any position to dictate what should be reported and what should not be reported, taking after her boss in doing so.
She went on to allege that her team is completely innocent, asserting, as she and others in Trump’s inner circle have done recently, that it’s the Hillary Clinton campaign that colluded with Russia in their efforts to alter the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
‘I think that our position hasn’t changed since day one, and I think we are seeing now that if there was any collusion with Russia, it was between the DNC and the Clintons, and certainly not our campaign.’
The latest round of insistence from the Trump team that the Clintons are the real criminals coincides with two House committees opening an investigation into Hillary Clinton allegedly having corruptly pushed through a uranium deal with Russia. There remains no real evidence that she actually did so.
It also recently came out that Democrats allegedly paid for the opposition research on Trump that culminated in the dossier central to the ongoing investigation. Opposition research, however, is not itself illegal.
