Local news agencies are reporting that police have arrested a man who physically assaulted a U.S. Senator inside his home.
Police report that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was attacked inside his Bowling Green, Kentucky home on Friday. 59-year-old Rene Albert Boushner is charged with “assault in the fourth degree.”

According to Bowling Green Daily News:
‘A Kentucky State Police news release reported that KSP troopers were called to the Paul residence at 3:21 p.m. Friday. According to a news release, Boucher was arrested by Trooper Bartley Weaver and charged with assaulting Paul, a Republican who has been Kentucky’s junior senator since 2011. The release also indicated that Paul sustained minor injuries.
‘An arrest warrant was issued through the Warren County Attorney’s office. The charge of fourth degree assault is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail. According to the Warren County Regional Jail website, Boucher is being held on a $5,000 bond.’
The level of injuries sustained by Sen. Paul are not yet known and further charges may be pending depending upon a medical report regarding the expected outcome. In a statement regarding the incident, Paul’s communications director, Kelsey Cooper, told reporters that the junior senator from Kentucky is doing well.
‘Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault. The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine.’
