Sadly, The Trump Administration does not have a lack of racist right-wing officials trying to run the country right now. Trump’s former chief strategist and Breitbart CEO, Steve Bannon, who is a huge alt-right leader, was forced to resign in August. Also, current Attorney General Jeff Sessions once told a lawyer that he thought the KKK was “OK until I found out they smoked pot.”

Now, there comes an announcement of another Trump official resigning. According to The Washington Post:

‘A political appointee in the Department of Homeland Security abruptly resigned after the disclosure Thursday he previously made derogatory remarks about black people and Muslims on conservative talk radio.’

The Post also reported that:

‘Rev. Jamie Johnson, who was appointed the head of the DHS’s Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships in April, appeared on the program in 2008. The comments resurfaced on Thursday after CNN published a report about them with audio snippets.’

The Department of Homeland Security announced Johnson’s resignation on Thursday evening. DHS Secretary Tyler Houlton stated:

‘Acting Secretary Duke has accepted Rev. Jamie Johnson’s resignation as Director of the Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships at DHS . . . His comments made prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security clearly do not reflect the values of DHS and the administration.  The Department thanks him for his recent work assisting disaster victims and the interfaith community.’

What fueled Johnson’s resignation was CNN’s release of some radio sound bytes dated from 2008-2016, in which he was caught saying things like:

‘[I]t’s an indictment of America’s black community that has turned America’s major cities into slums because of laziness, drug use and sexual promiscuity.’

During that 2008 discussion on Accent Radio, Johnson was also heard espousing very anti-Semitic comments, saying:

‘I think one of the reasons why is because Jewish people from their coming to America in great waves in the early part of the 1800’s immediately rolled up their sleeves and began to work so hard and applied themselves to education and other means of improvement and other means of climbing the, I hate this phrase, but the social ladder if you will.

‘And they have done exceptionally well for themselves. For only representing about 1.4% of America’s population, they make up 12% of America’s millionaires. Why? Because they work.’

Johnson also voiced many anti-Muslim comments saying in 2011:

‘Jews do not want to cut our heads off, Muslims want to cut our heads off. Jews who believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are our friends, they will always be our friends, and the best supporter of the Jewish believer is the Christian who understands that Jesus was a Jew.’

He goes on to speak about how Islam is an ideology and not a religion.

Johnson apologized to CNN saying:

‘I have and will continue to work with leaders and members of all faiths as we jointly look to strengthen our safety and security as an interfaith community. Having witnessed leaders from the entire faith spectrum work to empower their communities I now see things much differently. I regret the manner in which those thoughts were expressed in the past, but can say unequivocally that they do not represent my views personally or professionally.’

Here is what a few people had to say on Twitter:
