As the Mueller investigation continues to dig deeper and deeper into the ties the Trump campaign may have had with Russia, unsettling evidence is being revealed that shows the Trump campaign did, indeed, have close ties with the Kremlin including a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and a Kremlin official who may also have ties to the Russian mafia.
CBS reported Trump Jr. briefly met with Alexander Torshin at an NRA meeting back in May of 2016 in Louisville, Kentucky. Although the Trump base claims the two only spoke about firearms, it’s still beyond fishy considering Torshin had already expressed interest in having Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet and was turned down the first go around.
Specifically, contact was made between the Trump campaign and an associate of Torshin who expressed the desire to set up a dinner for Trump to meet Putin. That email made it back to Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner who said no and supposedly warned campaign officials about such requests. However, Torshin got to meet with Trump Jr. instead. Kushner was recently reprimanded by the Senate Judiciary Committee for trying to hide the correspondence.
Trump Jr.’s attorney Alan Futerfas stated:
‘Donald J. Trump Jr. was attending an NRA convention and having dinner when an acquaintance asked him to say hello to Torshin and made an introduction. They made small talk for a few minutes and went back to their separate meals. That is the extent of their communication or contact.’
The timing, as noted by the New York Daily News is questionable considering Trump Jr. met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in hopes of receiving incriminating information on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton three weeks after meeting with Torshin.
Furthermore, Torshin has questionable connections, to say the least. He’s been alleged to be the godfather of a crime syndicate and he’s been tied to money laundering. He’s also claimed in the past he has met Trump himself before the campaign. Furthermore, he was going to meet Trump back in February of 2017; however, that meeting was canceled after his ties to the mob were revealed. Torshin is also the deputy head of the Russian central bank.
Hopefully, this will serve as an eye opener for many who still refuse to acknowledge the mere idea of a connection between the Trump campaign and Russia. Additionally, it looks more and more like Trump Jr. is getting in way over his head and hopefully, the evidence will drown him. We can only hope he will be one of the next indictments as a result of the Mueller investigation.
